Overheating
CAUSES OF SLOW COMPUTER PERFORMANCE
11/30/20241 min read
Overheating
Cause:
High temperatures can lead to thermal throttling, where the CPU or GPU automatically reduces its performance to prevent overheating and damage. Overheating can result from poor ventilation, dust accumulation, or failing cooling components.
Symptoms:
Sudden drops in performance or frame rates during intensive tasks.
The system feels warm to the touch, especially around vents.
The fan runs loudly or continuously at high speed.
Unexpected shutdowns or reboots.
Error messages related to high temperatures.
Solution:
1. Improve Cooling and Ventilation:
Clean the Hardware:
Use compressed air to remove dust from vents, fans, and heat sinks.
Ensure Proper Airflow:
Place the computer in a well-ventilated area.
Avoid placing it on surfaces like beds or carpets that block airflow.
Upgrade Cooling:
Consider adding or upgrading case fans, or replace old thermal paste on the CPU and GPU.
For laptops, use a cooling pad to reduce temperatures.
2. Monitor Temperatures:
Use tools like HWMonitor, Core Temp, or MSI Afterburner to check CPU and GPU
